Milton Keynes restaurant closes permanently

Indian venue was fined earlier this year for poor hygiene.

A popular Stony Stratford restaurant has closed down permanently.

Calcutta Brasserie, an Indian restaurant that was sited inside a 17th century listed chapel in the town, announced its closure in an online message with a picture of the venue displaying the sign ‘We Are Now Closed’.

A social media message says: ‘We’re sad to announce that Calcutta Brasserie is now permanently closed. We would like to thank all our amazing customers for the fantastic years we’ve shared with you. It’s been a truly wonderful journey, and we’re incredibly grateful for all the memories, support, and loyalty.

‘This chapter may have come to an end, but we’ll always cherish the moments we created together. With heartfelt thanks, Calcutta Brasserie Management’.

Earlier this year the restaurant was ordered to pay more than £12,700 after Milton Keynes City Council found a rat infestation and poor hygiene conditions inside the premises.

During an MKCC inspection, officers found evidence of the infestation inside the restaurant and noted that the premises was unclean. The business closed immediately and carried out a full cleaning and pest control programme before being permitted to reopen.

Calcutta Brasserie was unavailable for comment.
