Match preview: Stevenage vs Milton Keynes Dons

MK Dons make the short trip to Hertfordshire on Saturday to take on Stevenage in League One at the Lamex Stadium.

After a 2-0 defeat away to Blackpool on Tuesday night, the Dons will be desperate to put things right in front of 900+ travelling fans.

Paul Warne’s side were unable to capitalise on their first-half dominance in Lancashire that saw several good chances go to waste. Sam Silveira hit the post early on after some clever skill, but the rebound off Eli Campbell somehow stayed out, keeping the score 0-0.

A quiet second half sprang to life when Keroy Anderson caught out Will Dennis from out wide to give the hosts the lead in a fortuitous manner. The Dons were unable to come up with any real answers to the opening goal and were made to pay when Dale Taylor added a second with 13 minutes remaining.

The Boro have won four out of their previous five league games and are in a rich vein of form heading into Saturday’s game. A 3-0 hammering over high-flying Plymouth on Tuesday night at the Lamex Stadium saw Alex Revell’s side shoot up into ninth place. Two first-half goals from Michael Mellon and Josh Magennis put the hosts into a comfortable lead heading into the break.

The visitors were unable to come up with a response in the second half, where things went from bad to worse through a Phoenix Patterson goal to make it 3-0 late on in the game.

Callum Paterson is expected to be in the matchday squad, having trained regularly over the last few days. Rushian Hepburn-Murphy, Curtis Nelson and Ryan Barnett are all set to miss out on Saturday alongside long-term absentee Kane Wilson, who remains a long way from a return.

Stevenage are expected to be without former Don Louis Thompson, who was forced off with just 15 minutes to go in their win over Plymouth. Wanya Marcal is also set to miss Saturday’s clash after an injury last week. Matt Smith is a doubt for the hosts after missing out on Tuesday night.

MK Dons are precariously set in 20th place, just outside of the relegation zone following their poor start to the campaign, and will be frantically hoping to kickstart their season, starting on Saturday.

Stevenage have had a positive start to the season and sit ninth in the table, with games in hand against most around them.

The two sides have met 16 times, with six wins apiece and four draws. Their last meeting came in November 2021, when Stevenage secured a 2-1 victory in an FA Cup replay.

Will Finnie will referee Saturday’s clash, assisted by Christopher Myatt and Michael Webb, with Matthew Scholes as fourth official.
