Match Preview: AFC Wimbledon vs Milton Keynes Dons

MK Dons travel to South London to take on rivals AFC Wimbledon at The Cherry Red Records Stadium on Thursday night.

The Dons are still searching for a win on their return to League One football after Peterborough scored late at Stadium MK on Saturday to make it 1-1 for the Dons’ fifth draw in their opening six games.

Aaron Collins scored the Dons’ only goal in a game that saw the hosts dominate for large spells but were unable to put the Posh to the sword as the game progressed, and eventually were denied after an attempted cross from Chris Conn-Clarke curled its way into the top corner.

AFC Wimbledon have had a positive start to the new season and have won three of their first six matches. Thursday’s hosts have won their previous two games against Bromley and most recently Doncaster Rovers.

A goal from Myles Hippolyte just before half-time was enough to secure the points for the South London outfit.

Paul Warne has all of his outfield players at his disposal ahead of Thursday’s game, except long-term absentee Kane Wilson, with Ryan Barnett returning to training after picking up a knock last week. Rushian Hepburn-Murphy made his first appearance of the season following a long-term injury after coming on for the final 20 minutes against Peterborough.

AFC will be without James Tilley and Matty Stevens. Tilley picked up a suspected hamstring injury in their 2-0 win against Bromley, while Stevens has not featured since April and picked up a fresh injury in July.

Thursday’s fixture will be the 19th meeting between the two sides. AFC Wimbledon are unbeaten in their last four encounters with the Dons, although the visitors hold the better overall record, having won eight of the previous 18 meetings. AFC Wimbledon have won five, while the other five have ended in draws.

Richard Eley is the referee for the match and has handed out 18 yellow cards across his six outings this season.

Tickets are still available on the MK Dons website: https://www.eticketing.co.uk/mkdons/

    Kick-off is at 8pm.
