Win for Milton Keynes Breakers in Bristol

Keen to get back to winning ways, Breakers Men’s team travelled south on Saturday to take on Bristol Flyers II – who sat bottom of the British Championship Basketball table – at SGS College.

While their hosts had yet to record a league win all season, Breakers went into this game on the back of their first loss in seven games and were clearly in the mood to put that defeat to COB Rockets firmly behind them.

Jumping out to a 15-5 lead early in the first quarter, Flyers had few answers as the visitors got to the rim repeatedly and shot the ball well from deep. Doing both while dominating the rebounding battle made this a one-sided affair, allowing Coach Ben Stanley to test the strength of his bench.

That strong rotation saw MK5D Academy youngster Kalvin Oates feature heavily, knocking down a three in Q2 that extended the lead to 15 before seven consecutive points from Dashawn Jackson pushed it out to 22.

The game continued in similar fashion after the half time interval, eventually seeing Breakers secure a 101-60 victory with Jackson – who finished with 19 points, two rebounds and five steals – taking home Player of the Game honours.

“It was good to take care of business in such a professional manner here,” said Head Coach Ben Stanley afterwards. “Sticking to our game plan and maintaining our focus was rewarded with a good team performance.

“It’s great to see us end a game with five guys in double figures and 25 assists shows we moved the ball well. Our focus will now shift to next week when we have a chance to repeat that against Henel in front of our own fans.”

That game at Bletchley Leisure Centre is on Saturday, January 31 and tips off at 17:00. Tickets are available here
