Milton Keynes Breakers have announced British basketball legend Nigel Lloyd as the club’s new Head Coach.
Following the departure of Ben Stanley, the former MK Lions player and coach will take the reins of the Men’s First Team.
Returning to a city he has long been connected to, Coach Lloyd boasts a wealth of experience from one of the game’s most interesting and varied careers. Hailing from New York, Lloyd had a stint with the LA Clippers in the NBA summer league before making a name for himself in Europe, primarily in the UK where he is widely regarded as one of the greatest players to play in the BBL (now SLB).
Playing in Hemel, Manchester, Leicester, Thames Valley, Birmingham and Milton Keynes, he would become the second highest scorer in the history of the BBL, winning multiple titles and personal accolades along the way.
Lloyd would also win two trophies playing for the Barbados national team, eventually becoming their coach and guiding them to their first ever Commonwealth Games berth in 2007. Just as he had shone on the court, he would quickly emerge as an elite coach, starting that journey with Milton Keynes Lions before going on to enjoy huge success with London Lions, Manchester Giants and London Cavaliers.
Now set to lead us into the new season, he is delighted to get an opportunity to take charge of the Breakers in the BCB. “You never forget where your coaching career started,” Lloyd said. “Returning to coach here in Milton Keynes is both a privilege and a reminder of how far the journey has come.”
Lloyd is no stranger to the core of the Breakers team, having coached the likes of Jordan Spencer, Blayne Freckleton and Mike New Jr as juniors, “I’m excited about putting together a team our brilliant fans can get behind, built around the core of local guys we already have and some exciting additions.’
Lloyd also shares the club’s enthusiasm about the development of local talent: "There are a lot of promising talents coming through the Breakers junior program and MK5D Academy. I’m looking forward to working with them and integrating the top talents into the men’s team.”

Fans will have the chance to see Coach Lloyd’s Breakers in action for the first time on Thursday 27th August, when they welcome touring team USA Select in preseason action.
