Milton Keynes Breakers blow lead to Blazers

Having seen their six-game winning streak ended by Newcastle last week, MK Breakers Men travelled to Derby on Saturday night looking to bounce back with a win over the Trailblazers.

They did so against an opponent who – while sitting in the bottom half of the table – had grabbed a major victory just seven days earlier, seeing off Yorkshire Dragons on their own floor.

But, just as they had in their previous outing against the Knights, it would be Breakers who got off to a bright start, leading by six after the first quarter. Back-to-back threes from Ben Baker and Jonas Dieterich just before half time saw that lead extend to 12, maintaining that advantage in the opening minutes of the second half.

Yet it would be then that the performance fell away, with Jai Pathmarajah sparking into life and dropping 10 points in the third quarter as the home side flipped the game on its head in an eight-minute spell.

During that period, Blazers went from down 12 to leading by four points going into the final quarter. They would continue to execute their offence, while the shots stopped falling for Breakers, eventually succumbing to a frustrating 94-86 defeat that meant they were unable to capitalise on other results going in their favour.

Slipping to fourth in the table after back to back defeats, the Breakers look to get back to winning ways on Saturday, March 21 when Yorkshire Dragons visit Bletchley Leisure Centre. Tip off is at 17:00 and tickets are available here.
