Former academy player rejoins city football club.
Milton Keynes Dons have signed forward Sam Nombe on a permanent transfer for an undisclosed fee, the club has announced.
The 27-year-old striker is no stranger to Milton Keynes, having played for MK Dons previously and coming up through the Dons’ youth ranks.
Nombe graduated to the first team in 2017 and was a Don up until 2021, before making the move to Exeter City for two seasons. During his time with the Grecians, Sam took to the pitch at both League Two and League One level.
The forward then joined Rotherham United in August 2023, who were competing in the Championship – securing Nombe experience across every tier of the EFL.
The striker has made 294 EFL appearances across his career, scoring 66 goals – a clear marker of his special talents as a forward. Sam’s first professional League goal for MK Dons was a memorable strike against AFC Wimbledon in 2019.
“Sam is a forward I’ve always liked who doesn’t give a moment’s peace to the opposition’s back line,” said MK Dons head coach Paul Warne.
“He thrives off crosses which I like my team to excel at. He’s physical, confident and has consistently scored goals at this level. His work rate for the team is also to be applauded. He improves a very strong department of our squad.
“I still believe there is more to come from Sam with the supply and support he will get from this team and staff. It was one of the easiest negotiations I’ve ever done with a player as his heart was set on coming back to the city to play for this great club.”
