A Bus Driver from a major Milton Keynes operator has been celebrated after coming to the assistance of a member of the public who was threatening to take his own life.

Ben Corr won Stagecoach Midlands’ prestigious Star of the Month accolade after stopping his bus to talk down a man who was trying to commit suicide by jumping from a bridge. He talked calmly to the man and even gave him some of his own food to offer him comfort and support.

All the time, he kept his passengers informed about what was going on, as the situation developed.

Stagecoach Midlands rewards such acts of heroism, and a certificate and gift voucher were handed over by Operations Director, Kam Gill.

Mark Whitelocks, Managing Director of Stagecoach Midlands, said: “I am very proud of everything that Ben was able to do - he really proved himself to be a hero in a hugely challenging situation. This was a truly excellent display of his good character; he reacted with quick-thinking, calm and professionalism, as well as great use of the observation skills that we train our drivers to have.

“One of our Values is that we 'support our communities’ and this just goes to show the dedication that our colleagues, across the region, have for providing the best possible service to local people in our communities. We also say that ‘we’ve got you’ and this was a wonderful example of that ethos in action.”
