What could your neighbourhood do with £1,000?
A local community project is making £40,000 available to help strengthen Milton Keynes neighbourhoods.
The MK Community Foundation has launched the Community Roots Project, a new funding programme offering 40 grants of £1,000 to community groups, charities and grassroots organisations that bring people together and help neighbourhoods thrive across the city.
The initiative will support local groups that create opportunities for residents to connect, learn, support one another and develop a stronger sense of belonging. Funding can be used for a wide range of projects, including community events, activities, equipment and new ideas that help build stronger local relationships.
Examples could include goal nets for youth teams, musical instruments for community classes, venue hire for local gatherings or resources for creative and environmental projects. Applications for the Community Roots Project open on 13th July, and organisations are encouraged to apply early while funding remains available.
Applications are open to eligible charities, community groups, Community Interest Companies (CICs), sports clubs and other not-for-profit organisations with an annual income of less than £500,000.
Grants will be awarded on a rolling basis until all 40 awards have been distributed, with applications assessed weekly. Applicants will be asked to submit a short video explaining their idea, the need it addresses and the difference it will make in their community.

“With the right support, even the smallest idea can grow into something that becomes an essential part of community life.”
Strong relationships help reduce loneliness, improve well-being, and strengthen resilience during challenging times. Across Milton Keynes, volunteers, small charities and community groups continue this work every day, often with limited resources.
The Community Roots Project has been designed to make funding more accessible to these organisations by introducing this simple application process.
