Carly could not wait to visit The Stables tonight (17/12) to see A Christmas Tail and here is her full review...
The experience
Tonight my Partner and I took my Nephew along to The Stables to see A Christmas Tail. We came for the 4:30 showing which was perfect as it was pretty much straight from school pick up. The show is a straight 60 mins with no interval. I felt bad taking my Nephew along without my Niece but there was an age restriction of 4+ and it was clear that those younger than that age struggled to make it through the whole performance. I’d say my Nephew being 5 and this being his first theatre show was perfect although being sat in the dark definitely made him tired straight after school!
The show was really interactive straight away with elves walking amongst the audience as you took your seats. It was a very simple set so as the children's attention goes on the actors rather than being distracted. The Circus skills got the crowd going with lots of rounds of applause from the audience. The light show really captured the children’s attention. You could tell that the children fell in love with the main character the puppy and were invested in his journey home.
My Nephew said his favourite bit was making the snowballs and throwing them at the stage all of the children loved getting involved! It was great to see a crowd full of children in their Christmas jumpers and party dresses enjoying an afternoon at the theatre. If you are looking for a really family friendly show this is the perfect way to spend a really Christmassy hour!
The story
Having got lost in a snow-storm, a mischievous but lovable puppy faces an epic journey to get home in time for Christmas. Featuring a series of hair-raising escapades along the way, including chaotic snowball fights and side-splitting sledging antics, the show offers a whirlwind of laughter, surprises and heartwarming moments.
Can our young but brave puppy make it back home safely in time? All will be revealed in this paw-some story suitable for everyone over 4 years old.
Fusing comedy, circus and puppetry, and interwoven with music and songs, this is one tail-wagging adventure you and your children won't forget in a hurry!
