Club staff take on gruelling bike leg in heart foundation initiative.
Three representatives from MK Dons set off this morning to complete the football club’s leg of a national British Heart Foundation charity initiative to raise awareness of the importance of CPR.
Creative director Dave Clorley, Strength and Conditioning Coach Tom Bromley and Matthew Broughton, from MK Dons Sport and Education Trust, took to the saddle to ride the Dons’ 35km section of a 72-leg relay that finishes at Wembley Stadium on Easter Monday .
The English Football League’s 'Every Minute Matters' cycling relay arrived this morning (7th April) at Stadium MK following yesterday’s leg from Coventry City. The Dons’ riders then made their way to Luton Town’s Kenilworth Road for their section.
The relay is in support of the British Heart Foundation with the aim of teaching 72,000 people CPR – resuscitation following a cardiac arrest – by the end of the football season.
There are two simultaneous 2,000km routes, starting in Barrow and Plymouth, visiting all 72 football grounds in the EFL before culminating at Wembley to help raise the profile of the campaign.
Unlike traditional charity events, the Every Minute Matters relay isn’t asking for fans to donate cash – Sky Bet has already committed to donate £3 million to support the vital work of the BHF – instead it’s about giving the gift of time.
“Sky Bet and the BHF are calling on football fans across the UK to get behind their club and back those participating by ‘donating’ just 15 minutes of their time to learn potentially life-saving CPR,” said an EFL spokesperson.
“We have set an ambitious target of 72,000 fans trained in CPR as a result of this event, and with your help and support, we know we can make a real difference.”
