Unity Place will host fundraisers during local World Homeless Day event.
One of Milton Keynes best-known work and leisure venues will welcome fundraisers finishing next week’s Walk For UnityMK charity event.
Unity Place is opening up its Urban Food Market to participants for the finale of the special 10 kilometre fundraising walk taking place on World Homeless Day, Friday 10th October.
Walk for UnityMK invites residents, families, and groups to join up and help raise funds and awareness for people who are facing or experiencing homelessness in Milton Keynes.
Participants will set off from UnityMK’s Homelessness Centre at The Old Bus Station shelter, following an interactive digital map that shares real stories from people who have experienced homelessness in Milton Keynes. The map will remain live from next Friday until Sunday 12th October, giving walkers the flexibility to complete the full 10 km or a shorter distance at their own pace across the weekend.
The official celebration will take place on Friday when participants finishing their walk will be welcomed into Unity Place’s Urban Food Market to collect certificates, enjoy refreshments, and hear more about the impact of UnityMK’s work.
Registration for the event costs £25 per adult, with under-18s free of charge when accompanied by an adult. Every entry helps provide emergency shelter and long-term support for people facing homelessness in Milton Keynes, and participants are also encouraged to fundraise further through sponsorship.
“Unity Place exists to bring people together, and we are proud to be the final stop for this powerful event,” said Adam Holbrook, Head of Placemaking at Unity Place.
“Walk for UnityMK is about solidarity as much as fundraising, and we hope to see many people join us on World Homeless Day in supporting UnityMK’s vision of a city where everyone has a place to call home.”
UnityMK, the charity behind the event, works year-round to provide safe accommodation and support for people facing or experiencing homelessness.
“We are deeply grateful to Unity Place for their continued support as neighbours and partners in our shared mission to create positive change for Milton Keynes’ homeless community,” said Ria House, Corporate and Community Fundraising Manager, UnityMK.
“Walk for UnityMK is about more than just taking steps around Milton Keynes, it’s about taking steps towards change. Every person who registers, every donation, every conversation sparked by this event helps us get closer to ending homelessness in our city.”
Every day, an average of 42 people visit the UnityMK Homelessness Centre to access support services.
