Milton Keynes recycling centres hit by two fires in same day

Four fire engines and an officer attended a blaze involving four large waste containers, at a recycling centre in Newport Pagnell yesterday afternoon.

It was the second fire incident at a recycling centre locally in the same day, following a lunchtime blaze at the Bleak Hall unit.

At the height of the fire, four fire engines, one water carrier, and one officer were in attendance.

It generated a large number of calls to Thames Valley Fire Control Service due to the large plume of smoke generated by the fire on the North Crawley Road, involving household waste, furniture and scrap metal.

Residents and businesses in the surrounding area were advised to keep doors and windows closed while the attending crews carried out their work.

Firefighters left the scene before 10pm last night, but returned over night to carry out re-inspections and check for hotspots.
