Milton Keynes charity appeal for ‘friends’ a success

A Milton Keynes children’s charity has praised MKFM for helping it to continue raising the profile of the organisation and the work that it does.

Harry’s Rainbow, the charity that helps bereaved children, used the recent MKFM ‘Meet of MK’ gathering to appeal for new support from local people and businesses.

It costs the charity about £650 to support a bereaved child for a year, so fundraising is an important part of its business to allow volunteers to continue their work.

Speaking at the recent MOMK event, held in Kobe Steakhouse in the city’s Xscape venue, Odette Mould, Harry’s Rainbow CEO, thanked more than 100 delegates for their donations of cash and potential raffle prizes for future fundraising.

And she appealed to guests to sign up as a ‘friend’ of the only child bereavement charity based in Milton Keynes – which currently helps up to 200 children a year and has more than 600 children registered with them.

“But we have ambitious plans,” said Odette. “We want to be supporting double that number of children. Looking at the population of Milton Keynes, the diversity of the city, we’re not reaching every child in MK yet with our support services. And to do that we need to reach out to our community to help us.”

One way in which supporters can help Harry’s Rainbow do that is through the charity’s ‘Friends Club’. It allows individual supporters to donate £5 a month or businesses to give £100 a month in a corporate arrangement.

The evening event last week also produced eight bottles of prosecco, two boxes of chocolates, one teddy bear and £335 in cash donations to help the charity in its future fundraising and work.
