Customers left crying into their soup as steakhouse shuts.
Upset diners ate their last meal at Milton Keynes’ Bar & Block restaurant yesterday as the popular eatery closed its doors for the final time.
The Avebury Boulevard steakhouse will be integrated into the Premier Inn hotel sited next door as part of owner Whitbread’s plans to shut its standalone restaurant brands which also included Brewers Fayre and Beefeater.
The Milton Keynes Bar & Block, which is one of only 20 in the UK, will be redecorated and rebranded to have the same look and feel as all Premier Inn restaurants across the country.
“Premier Inn are converting everything and we are in the first stage,” said restaurant manager Steven Carpenter. “So basically it’s going to be run by the hotel now.
“We’re built into the hotel so we can convert to the same standards, so from this morning it has turned into a Premier Inn standalone restaurant.”
Many customers have been visiting Bar & Block for the final time this week as they say a sad farewell to the steakhouse.
“A lot of people have said they’re upset, with Milton Keynes losing another steakhouse,” said Steven. “We have had regulars coming in for the last time as we used up our stock, and we had to serve our Premier Inn guests who had pre-paid their meal deals as it was phased out.”
