The Hazeley Academy hosts first-ever 5D Baccalaureate Ceremony celebrating holistic student achievement.
The Hazeley Academy, in west Milton Keynes, proudly marked a historic milestone last night with its inaugural 5D Baccalaureate Ceremony. Led by Elizabeth Jobling, Trust Director of Professional Development, the event celebrated the diverse achievements of 155 Year 8 students. In a moving and memorable evening, students took to the stage in traditional cap and gown to receive their certificates of completion, symbolising their growth across all dimensions of learning.
The 5D Baccalaureate is a pioneering initiative that recognises the full breadth of student development - academic and technical qualifications, artistic expression, sporting excellence, and civic engagement. It ensures that every young person gains credit for their contributions both inside and beyond the classroom.
The ceremony was graced by three inspirational guest speakers:
- Johnny Ball, beloved broadcaster and champion of mathematics, who brought his trademark energy and encouragement to the stage.
- Steve Willshaw, Chair of the National Baccalaureate Trust, who praised the academy’s commitment to a well-rounded education.
- Tom Sherrington, Trustee of the Trust and respected educational thought leader, who spoke passionately about the power of recognising all aspects of student achievement.
Miss Toni Whiteman, Head of School, shared, “This first 5D Baccalaureate ceremony is a proud moment for our Academy's community. It reflects our belief that education is about more than just exams - it’s about nurturing the whole person. We are incredibly proud of our 155 students and excited to see how they continue to grow.”
The evening concluded with heartfelt applause and a sense of pride that resonated throughout the Academy. The Hazeley Academy’s 5D Baccalaureate sets a new standard for recognising and celebrating the full potential of every learner.
